Glass and pets and kids don't mix.

I was given probably 100 little glass bottles from the science dept. of the college where my MIL works but they're still in a box. I can't risk it. I'm going to give them to a local beading group I think.

I agree on the organization! My tubes are for 4mm and 6mm, bins for 10s and 11s, hang top tubes for 15s and 8s, etc. All of a particular type are in the same container. One day I hope to move to all one type but not until I build my dream shelves.Valoriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16017172498458324795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1605560048689879708.post-9279159902883932272013-08-16T18:54:25.145-07:002013-08-16T18:54:25.145-07:00Hah, thank you! I know what I have and I still buy duplicates. :) I just can't stand those boxes... mainly because I like to select a color and take it to my beading area... I don't want to take an entire big box when I need just one color. Plus the mixing thing irks me. :) Oh, and I've dropped one on the floor a time or two. I've re-used all sorts of things: pill bottles, tic tac or gum containers, cat treat containers, empty margarine bowls, etc. before I got picky and wanted my containers to match. You know what else works well if you have lots of room? Those little Glad bowls with lids... the tiny round snack ones for toddlers? Also empty baby food ones. Unfortunately, the screw tops for the tubes worked loose. Like you, I do not want my beads mixed.

I am using an inexpensive set of screw top chubby tubes meant specifically for beads. In the past I used spice jars from Ikea.

One other thing I learned in the process is that using containers that are all the same really helps with the organization and finding things. Mine are mostly in rectangular compartmentalized boxes - which was annoying when they were stacked, but now my husband has built me a closet with shelves all the way across and each one has an eight inch space from the one above or below it, so no more stacking! Where there's a will, there's a way when it comes to our beads :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04464506568805172943noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1605560048689879708.post-51136282984135978252013-08-16T12:08:00.959-07:002013-08-16T12:08:00.959-07:00Excellent post Val. In my early days of learning I did a workshop with a woman who taught beading (not weaving) in her converted garage. She had a wall of exactly your dream, narrow shelves and not tall shelves so more stacking. She has everything arranged in colours around he room. No seperation of what it was, all in colours. It looked amazing. BUT there is more. When she ran out of room, she had a carpenter build another set of shelves and put it on runners, So the shelf slid in front of the other shelves. That way she could continue expanding her stash.
You guys are lucky to have such thrift stores, we have them but not with the variety you do.
