We'll Be Back....In a Snap!

Pardon the pun but excitement can make me silly.
Here's the first of our free tutorials my Daisy Snaps.
Snaps are such a great way to add a clasp that matches perfectly, they are my 'go to' and I've made them in many different designs.  I think the daisies are one of the funnest though, I hope you enjoy them.

If you want a downloadable copy you can get it here.

Now, here is your chance for input and a prize!
Follow the blog, comment on this post telling me what you would like to ask our new Mavens and I'll put your name in for the drawing of a $25 gift certificate to spend on tutorials in my store.
The winner will be announced on Saturday so you'll have to come back and check.....and if your question is really good you may get a prize anyway :)

Get snapping!

  5. What a greta little tutorial. I can't wait to try it. As for the mavens, i really liked the merging of patterns from different designers. It's something I love to see and really want to try.

  6. I had just discovered the Mavens, and you disappeared! So glad you are back? Will you be doing more beadweaving challenges? Hope so!

  7. Glad to be back :) I am leaving the decision of whether to have a contest up to the designers but I'll be happy to do the work if they decide that's what they want to do. The Maven Meld was my favorite contest because having something to work from is less intimidating than starting from scratch so it worked all levels of beaders. I would advise if we did it again to have three levels though, Novice, Advanced and Designer, it's hard for a newer beader to enter a contest where they'll be up against some of the top designers...and I'm all about encouraging new designers :)

  8. Will there be any innovative designs and techniques using the new shaped beads, i.e. gumdrops, rizos, etc.?

  9. I would have to say yes to that. We're all stimulated by the new shape beads and the addition of that extra hole. I have one lined up using Super Duos...just need to write it...lol!

  10. awesome! I had been looking for a good way to sew a snap onto beadwork without it pulling too much at the beads. I can't wait to see what other wonders your new Mavens have to offer!

  11. I wasn't aware of the first round of Bead Mavens (wasn't seriously beading back then), but I'm excited to follow now. Will you be including more than beadweaving techniques? Anything with wire? Kumi?

  12. We're mostly geared to bead weaving, Leora, though bead embroidery tends to sneak in here and there. I do know one of the new designers does some metalwork...so that might crop up.

  14. Love your snaps! The diagrams are wonderful. Thank you!

Narrowing down my questions for Mavens, um, would like to know what their go-to stitch is, if they have one.

  15. Always enjoy a new idea for finishing up a bracelet.. Thanks for sharing...

  16. I love the way the pattern on the snap can mimic the pattern on the bracelet and make it part of the design. Very cool. I would like to see more of this kind of thing. Finishing a bracelet is always a challenge to get the right clasp and I agree that beaded ones go best with beaded bracelets if that is possible!

  17. Thank you for the snap pattern. Anxious to follow this blog, am fairly new to bead weaving. Question for the new mavens...When you get an inspiration for a new idea, do you always sketch it out first or does it just 'happen' ? I am always curious as to what inspires a piece. Leanne

  18. merci beaucoup pour ce modèle, c'est très chouette d'intégrer le fermoir, j'espère pouvoir trouver ce type de fermoir en France, encore merci pour le partage.

  19. Good question Leanne and definitely one I know the new designers will answer. Personally I'm all over the place on this one...sometimes I sketch, sometimes the beads tell me what they want to do but most of the time it's my nagging muse, Morganna. I have times when I'm buying a certain type of bead and have no idea why, but Morganna (my creative sub-conscious) knows, and eventually she tells me :) If you follow my blog "TheBeadedCarpet.blogspot.com" you'll get to know more about Morganna who is basically a muse on steroids that I have to mentally lock in the closet at times. And no, I'm not crazy...my Mom had me tested ;)
Anonymous....check your sewing store for the snaps, they are a pretty universal things.

  20. How Great all of you are!! Thank you for the snap tutorial!!! I think I am going to try and put the snaps in the center of a peyote band and then make lots of different colored 'snap flowers' then I can change out the color combos anytime!!! how funtastic!!! I am thinking a 2 drop peyote with 8/0 hex beads. and then attached the snap bottoms and make the flowers :) Weekends are for Beading :)

  21. That's great Judi....I keep saying I'll do a bracelet like that but with my geometric snaps. Actually I have a gal pal who has asked if I can make a bracelet entirely of snap clasps....I may have to work on that :)

  22. Glad the Mavens are back. I was very disappointed when you went away.

My question to the Mavens - How long have you been beading? I know this sounds like a juvenile question, but here's the rest of it - I keep reading about different threads not standing up to the test of time, so was wondering what you use and how long you've used it to know if it's a risk for breakage or shredding several years down the road? Any words of wisdom on this topic? Thanks! (and thanks for the free snap tutorial!)

  23. Many thanks for the beautiful pattern.

  24. WOW ! thanks so much Mikki for sharing. These are terriffic. They look very doable and when I invest so much time in a beaded bracelet it seems a shame to put a simple metal clasp. Now I have another option :-)

    Brilliant wrap-around idea!
